Relax, unwind, and get informed not overwhelmed.
I remember back in 8th grade when my history teacher Mrs. Everhart got all of us really excited about the 1992 United States presidential election. There were three major candidates: Incumbent Republican President George H. W. Bush; Democratic Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, and independent Texas businessman Ross Perot.
This was my real first taste of politics and like everyone else, I listened to the debates and chose the politician that I felt represented my values the most.
During that time, Ross Perot that interested me the most. His middle-class upbringing and stories of how he got a job as a paperboy when he was a kid, made me think about myself. I also got a job as a paperboy when I was 12 because I didn’t want to bug my parents for things like Adlib soundcards and computer games. Anyways, I guess it made me feel like if he can grow up in similar circumstances, going to public schools and then later in life becoming a billionaire, then maybe one day so can I.
I’m sure there were many more reasons why I related to the guy, but it’s been decades and a lot of life in between.
I decided to write this post because the other night I couldn’t sleep, and my wife fell asleep on the couch while I entertained myself with our DVR and Kodi, until I got tired. Well, as I flipped through the channels I tuned to the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC and listened for a moment. She was trying desperately to keep her composure talking about Kevin McCarthy and how incredible it is that he might become the next speaker of the house. Well, at first that may sound like some boring political commentary to you, but that’s where you’re DEAD WRONG!
Kevin McCarthy seems to have the speaking ability of a 3-year-old who watches CNN. And somehow people with actual ears have elected him!
Yes, people apparently gave this man a job! And the most ironic part of this story is that Kevin McCarthy, the man who admitted on national TV, that Republicans made a big deal out of Benghazi just to hurt Hillary Clintons campaign, was about to become the Speaker of the House. For those who don’t remember, that is the third person in line to become president if something happens to the president and vice president.
Anyways, what I really want is for you to see Rachel Maddow’s clips of Kevin McCarthy speeches. I guarantee that it will open your eyes and give you a reason to follow politics from now on, if you’re not already.
When we elect people with IQ’s less than 100, hell less than 70, into Washington, it’s a no brainer why nothing is getting done. Let’s IQ test these so called leaders!
A Question To My Readers
Can we really afford not to take a closer look at the people we elected to create a government for the people, by the people? Let me know how you feel.
